Newser) – It pays to be a Johnny Cash fan: iTunes got a winner for its 10 billionth download contest when a Georgia man bought Cash’s “Guess Things Happen That Way” track. Louie Sulcer, a 71-year-old retired real estate broker, gets a $10,000 gift certificate to the iTunes store, Mac Observer reports.

Steve Jobs himself phoned with the news last night, and Roseanne Cash followed up with a thank-you call today, notes the New York Times. She even put hubby and fellow musician John Leventhal on the line to play the song. Sulcer says his three kids and nine grandkids will likely be the biggest spenders.

Tigerwoods.sex

(NEWSER) – PETA’s got a new billboard ready to roll featuring Tiger Woods and the ever-so-subtle slogan, “Too much sex can be a bad thing.” The message is that people should get their dogs and cats neutered, and the animal rights group is looking for a sponsor to put it up in Tiger’s home of Windermere, Florida.

“It’s a fun, tongue-in-cheek approach,” a PETA campaigner tells the Orlando Sentinel. “We hope these billboard companies will understand.” Woods’ attorney had no comment, but PETA is certain the golfer himself would approve. “We’re sure Tiger will appreciate our attempt—from a story that’s distracted the world and followed Tiger—to turn it into something positive for little tigers.”

Puppet cleavage is a blight on our culture! What is this world coming to!

Story (from the Denver Post)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Puppet cleavage has been ruled out for advertising posters in Colorado Springs bus shelters. Lamar Advertising rejected posters for a touring production of the Broadway show “Avenue Q” because they show the cleavage of a fuzzy pink puppet.

Lamar account executive Jeff Moore says the company takes a conservative approach in Colorado Springs. The city is known for its political conservatism, and some conservative Christian groups have headquarters in the city.

The poster has been replaced by one showing the face of another puppet.

kornheiser

Hard as it might be to believe looking at Tony Kornheiser’s “his Mama fed him with a sling shot” mug, this guy actually took time out of his show to make fun of fellow ESPN analyst Hannah Storm’s choice of clothing.

Wow.

This is like Bill Clinton lecturing Tiger Woods on sexual indiscretion.

Here’s the audio of Kornheiser taking aim at  Hannah Storm.

elton-john-billy-joel-concert_opt

Quick thoughts on last nights’ Elton/Billy show at the Pepsi Center:

  1. Nothing against Elton John but Billy Joel totally blew him off the stage last night.  Elton’s voice has a strange Ethel Merman type quality to it these days which is somewhat troubling to say the least.  Near as I can tell, Billy Joel was still singing his songs in the same key he wrote ‘em in 35 years ago.  NO ONE does that!
  2. Rather than calling it the “Face to Face” tour, they could’ve gone with the “Short Pudgy Guys” World Tour…though I understand why they didn’t.
  3. Believe it or not, I saw cops breaking up not one but TWO fights at last night’s Elton John Billy Joel show!  What do you fight about at that concert?  “Duuuude….Rocket Man is the GREATEST song ever!”  “No way, man…..Just The Way you Are totally KICKS that songs ass!”  Next thing you know, fists are flying!
  4. Speaking of Rocket Man…you know what pisses me off? When I see a middle aged couple slow dancing to that song like they’re back at Senior Prom!  It’s a song about an astronaut who gets LOST IN SPACE!  It’s not a love song and it definitely ain’t a dance song!

5.  Now, I understand that none of us are as young as we used to be…but at 175 FREAKING dollars a ticket, I’m expecting some pretty serious entertainment value. I mean, c’mon…WOW ME!  Elton John really seemed like he was going through the motions to me.  Billy Joel KILLED!  He hammed it up, he had some funny lines and in between song banter, he mixed up the ballads and the rockers and over all made me wish that it’d just been a Billy Joel show.  (Though Elton would’ve been handy to have around to fetch drinks.)
