What with all the time and resources Mr. Trump has been spending looking into President Obama’s Birth Certificate and his school records, it seems important to note that several relevant sources are now claiming that The Donald wasn’t exactly 100% truthful when discussing how he managed to avoid the Vietnam Draft.

Mr. Trump was 18 years old in 1964 and while he says he was never drafted due to having pulled a very high lottery number, it turns out he actually filed 4 student deferrments and 1 “mysterious” medical deferrment.

What’s that saying about people who live in glass houses?

(Denver Post)

With the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Broncos have selected Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller.

The winner of the 2010 Butkus Award, presented to the nation’s top linebacker, stood out to Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway and the rest of the Broncos personnel department.

In his career, Miller accumulated 182 tackles, 50.5 tackles for loss, 33 sacks, 10 forced fumbles and an interception.

The 6-foot-3, 246-pound outside linebacker led the Big 12 Conference in sacks for the second straight year as a senior and earned All-Big 12 honors and All-America honors for the second consecutive year as well.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, Miller said he couldn’t wait to help whichever team drafted him.

Mike’s Thoughts:  So, what do you think?  Good choice?

When a team plays as poorly as the Broncos have over the last few years I like the idea of picking Defense over offense in the draft just because I think it’s more likely that a Rookie Defender can come in and make a big impact early.

At the same time, if there’s one thing history has shown us it’s that drafting football players is like walking into a Vegas casino and throwing all your money on one spin of the roulette wheel.

For every Tom Brady who was picked at the bottom of his draft class and has gone on to be one of the winningest Quarterbacks in history, there’s at least half of dozen Jamarcus Russell’s and Ryan Leaf’s.  1st round picks who turned out to be complete and total busts.

Welcome to Denver, Von Miller.  Best of luck.  Work hard.  Stay healthy.  And show us what you got!

NEWSER) – An 18-month-old Dutch toddler has won a pro contract after a video of him expertly kicking soccer balls into his toy box scored almost a million hits on YouTube. Baerke van der Meij was offered the symbolic contract by Venlose Voetbal Vereniging, the team his grandfather once played for, the Telegraphreports. The toddler, with a little help from his pop, put crayon to paper to seal the deal. ”The toddler’s favorite position has not yet been determined,” the club said in a statement. “However, we can speak of a right-footed player with a very good kicking technique, perseverance and, importantly: football genes via his grandfather.” Little Baerke’s only comment was “ball.”

Mike’s Thoughts:  Seems like a questionable signing to me.  I hear Baerke’s break away speed is crap and he can’t use his left foot.  On the upside his signing bonus was $100 bucks in baby formula.

Mike’s Thoughts:  Awwwww jeez!  Hasn’t Michael been the SINGLE most popular name in the world for like 200 years now?  How is it that it doesn’t show up on any of these career lists?

I’m calling my parents to bitch them out later today.

And from now on I want you to refer to me as Rajesh.

(NEWSER) – Weird health advice of the day: Too much direct contact with armadillos—as in handling or eating them—can cause leprosy. Scientists for the first time have concluded that the animals can spread the disease to humans, reports the Los Angeles Times. The finding helps explain how some of the approximately 150 patients who get the disease each year in the US contract it even if they haven’t traveled to a country where it’s more common. Texas and Louisiana will do just fine.

Researchers have known for a while that nine-banded armadillos are natural hosts for the bacteria that causes the disease, but they haven’t until now been able to see a genetic match with strains in humans. The good news: It would take repeated and prolonged contact to get the disease, and even then the days of leper colonies are long gone—it’s easily treatable. “This is a wimp of an organism,” says one of the Baton Rouge researchersMike’s Thoughts:  In better news, research indicates that there is still no danger in “petting your kitty” or “spanking your monkey”.

HILLS STAR GETS ENGAGED TO FOOTBALL STAR

Kristin Cavallari got more than a nice vacation over the Easter weekend — she got an engagement ring. Her beau, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, proposed to her with a 5.2-carat stunner in Mexico. According to a source, “He surprised her with a quick trip to Cabo to ask her to marry him.” By the way, she said yes.

The couple have been dating since the fall.

Mike’s Thoughts: I heard that Cutler tweaked his knee getting up from the proposal and has now chosen to sit out the first 3 months of the engagement.

Add none other than Fox News, or at least anchor Shep Smith. After denouncing Franklin Graham’s questioning of the president’s birth certificate credentials, Smith declared: “Fox News can confirm the president of the United States is a citizen of the United States. Period.”

Smith has had little patience with the birther movement, and his statement on yesterday’s show came after Graham gave an Easter Sunday interview in which he said Obama simply had to show his birth certificate to clear up the mess, notes Mediaite. “He has produced a birth certificate,” said Smith. “It shows his mother gave birth to him in Hawaii. It is stamped and sealed by the state of Hawaii. It is confirmed.”

Mike’s Thoughts:  Boy, what a relief!  Now all we need to concern ourselves with is:  our economy, the unemployment rate, War in the Middle East, climate change, health care, poverty, and the failure of the American education system.

But at least the big item is off the table now.

(NEWSER) – Let the Katie Couric bidding war begin in earnest: Couric confirmed to Peoplethat she is indeed leaving her job as anchor ofCBS Evening News to focus on “multidimensional storytelling” elsewhere. Exactly what that means is unclear, but TV Guide quotes sources as saying she’s close to a deal with ABC, where she’d have a big presence on its network news programs and prime-time specials. TMZ, meanwhile, says she’s in talks to stay at CBS with a syndicated talk show. And rumors of a reunion with Matt Lauer remain in the mix as well. Her contract isn’t up until June, so don’t expect to know much for sure before then.

“I have decided to step down from the CBS Evening News,” Couric says. “I’m really proud of the talented team on the CBS Evening News and the award-winning work we’ve been able to do in the past five years in addition to the reporting I’ve done for 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning. In making the decision to move on, I know theEvening News will be in great hands, but I am excited about the future.” Click for moreMike’s Thoughts:  So what do you think would be a good next gig for Katie?  I’m thinking she’d be an awesome Disney World greeter.

HIGHWAYS MADE OF SOLAR CELLS COULD POWER THE WORLD… (ALLEGEDLY)

Imagine driving on a road paved with glass.

Inside this glass are solar cells that transform sunlight into electricity and send it directly to the homes on that street.

That’s idea of Solar Roadways, and the company has federal funding.

The co-founder of the company said, “There’s 25,000 square miles of road surfaces, parking lots and driveways in the lower 48 states. If we covered that with solar panels with just 15 percent efficiency, we’d produce three times more electricity than this country uses on an annual basis, and it’s almost enough to power the entire world.”

FYI, the strength of glass can be similar to steel and it would be ideal for driving on(Mike Question:  Someone explain to me how a car with rubber tires manages to STOP on a rain soaked roadway made of glass???)

Solar Roadways has built a 12-foot-by-12-foot prototype. Not only does the panel generate energy, it also lights up, creating a safer nighttime driving experience.

Mike’s Thoughts:  On behalf of everyone who may someday drive on these futuristic glass roads, allow me to thank everyone over at Spacely Sprockets for their hard work.

The rumor mill is rife with news that next Tuesday’s episode of FOX’s Glee will pay tribute to Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours album. Among the songs on the docket are “Go Your Own Way,” “I Don’t Want to Know,” “Songbird,” “Never Going Back Again,” “Dreams” and “Don’t Stop.”

Stevie Nicks paid a visit to the Glee set earlier this year, but she’s not scheduled to appear on the show.

Mike’s Thoughts:  I’m good with Stevie Nicks.  It’s the whole Glee thing I can’t seem to find the time or energy for.
